The Optris PI 400i is a high-resolution infrared camera for continuous radiometric temperature monitoring in industrial settings. It uses an uncooled focal plane array with 382 × 288 pixels, providing live thermal imaging up to 80 Hz. Operating in the 8–14 µm long-wave infrared spectrum, it is suitable for thermographic analysis of various materials and surfaces. Its spatial resolution, temporal accuracy, and advanced software let engineers and researchers visualize temperature distributions, detect thermal anomalies, and implement automated alarms in closed-loop systems

The  body is small and rugged with An anodized aluminum housing with an IP67 rating protects against dust and water.

The allowable ambient temperature during operation is 0 to 50 °C. For harsher environments, the CoolingJacket Advanced raises the allowable ambient temperature to 315 °C and can accommodate the Industrial Process Interface within the enclosure. An outdoor housing supports weather-exposed deployments. High-temperature USB cables rated to 180 °C or 250 °C and stainless steel mounting bases simplify installation in areas with heat and mechanical loads.

Interchangeable lenses let users match the field of view to their working distance and target size. A manual focus ring allows precise tuning to preserve measurement accuracy. Optris specifies both the instantaneous and minimum recommended field of view to ensure accurate measurement on small targets. PIX Connect software adds distortion correction and calculators to plan pixel size and stand-off distances.

PIX Connect supports real-time visualization, statistical tools (histograms, min/max tracking), line profiles, and time vs. temperature charts. Users can set triggers, alarm thresholds with hysteresis, emissivity tables, and region-based analysis. Radiometric video can be recorded in Optris format, and single frames saved as radiometric images or exported to CSV. Remote control is possible through the included COM and DLL interfaces, and developers can choose between the Connect SDK that automates PIX Connect or the Direct SDK that accesses the camera without the application. Both Windows and Linux are supported.
